Sounds of Freedom

I was listening to one of my favorite songs on my walk this morning, and I realized that I have listened to this song for over 10 years, and I am continually moved by the words as well as the music.

Lend your voices only to sounds of freedom

No longer lend your strength to that which you wish to be free from

Fill your lives with love and bravery

And you shall lead

A life uncommon

Let your words enslave no one

And the heavens will hush themselves

To hear our voices ring out clear with sounds of freedom

I have been practicing what I preach a lot these days… deeply listening to the needs and feelings  behind the words being put before me. It is hard sometimes when the conflict involves me, yet I am committed to standing up for what I value AND have compassion for the other person.

I am learning so much about myself. I know today that learning and growing into my whole and holy self will involve some pain. I get to mourn how I wish things were… the learning brings me to a peaceful, restful place nonetheless. There is a richness on the other side of walking through pain and disappointments.

The richness of life itself.
